Educational Pathways: From Home to High School, by Eduard Casas Bertet and collaborators, offers a compelling exploration of the homeschooling experience through adolescence. The book delves into the principles and values that shaped the decision to pursue this alternative educational path.
Drawing on personal stories and real-life contexts, the author reflects on themes such as the value of intergenerational socialization and the power of self-directed learning. He challenges the conventional school system, portraying it as a rigid framework that often stifles student motivation and struggles to balance rote instruction with the holistic development of the individual.
The journey culminates as the children transition into the formal school system in their final year of compulsory education, performing well academically and displaying a genuine enthusiasm for learning.
Part guide and part critique, this book speaks to parents considering homeschooling as well as educators rethinking current methodologies. It argues that learning at home can nurture—and even rekindle—children’s natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge, preparing them to thrive both within and beyond the classroom.
