"Educational Hygiene" is a seminal work by Lawrence Augustus Averill that addresses the critical intersection of public health and the school environment. Written during a transformative period in American pedagogy, this text provides an exhaustive overview of the standards and practices necessary to ensure the physical and mental well-being of students.

Averill delves into various aspects of school life, ranging from the architectural and sanitary requirements of school buildings to the personal health habits of the pupils. The work is divided into significant sections covering the hygiene of the school plant, the hygiene of the child, and the role of health training and instruction in the curriculum. It places particular emphasis on the importance of mental hygiene, recognizing the profound impact of psychological health on academic success and personal development.

As a historical resource, "Educational Hygiene" offers valuable insights into the evolution of health education and the professionalization of school health services. It remains an essential reference for those interested in the history of education, public health, and the development of modern school systems. Through its detailed examination of the teacher's role in health supervision, the work underscores the holistic responsibility of the educator in fostering a safe and productive learning environment.
