Print on Demand. This book is a guide to the early years of motherhood and childcare, written by a mother for mothers. It is based upon the principles of natural care for newborns, with simple ministrations and practical techniques that can be easily implemented at home. The author, herself an experienced mother and pedagogue, provides detailed advice and insight on nutrition, bathing, sleeping, clothing, and hygiene for the well-being of infants, whilst pointing out some of the mistakes and complications that can arise from poor practice and carelessness. The approach is predicated on early care and consideration of the child as a whole entity, with particular attention being given to the as-yet underdeveloped brain, and the necessity of warmth, air, and cleanliness as fundamental necessities. The book discusses ideas surrounding discipline and appropriate behaviour for the first year, and the importance of the mother’s health and well-being to her child, with the recurring idea that children are susceptible and responsive to a calmly directed environment. It also looks at how the first year moulds the moral and physical character of the child, and the need for the mother to forgo some of her own pleasures and convenience to ensure the care and health of her child. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
