[iv], 39 pp. Etched frontis plus 5 full page etched plates and 12 text drawings. Folio 12.75" x 10" in original slate grey shagreen cloth with black embossed ruling, beveled edges, and beautiful gilt title and insignia, gilt to spine. Gilt edges. Some moderate rubbing to the edges of the boards and a little mottling, small bit of loss at top/bottom spine, interior some foxing/freckling throughout, old pencil bibliographic notes on verso first free end paper, otherwise clean and unmarked. This is Edinburgh native Stevenson's second book, a paean to his birthplace. It is divided into ten chapters consisting of a series of essays describing different areas of Edinburgh: the Old Town, the Parliament Close, Greyfriar’s Kirkyard, the New Town, the villas in Morningside, Calton Hill and the Pentland Hills and includes stories about some of the seamier sides of the city, as well as its glories.
