Synopsis: Ecological awareness has been growing in the last two decades, but it has been slow in taking root in the Catholic consciousness. This is due, in part, to a fear of "stepping over the edge" into a naturalism out of synch with Catholic doctrine. But the realities of our ecological condition require that we confront our fears and address the issues that affect us now and will affect our children even more in years to come. Some movement has already been made through Pope John Paul II's 1990 World Peace Day address on the topic and his encyclical "Centesimus Annus". The ten essays in this volume take a step toward defining and engendering a creational responsibility in the Christian faith community. It addresses the subject from the perspective of the scriptures (part one), ethics (part two), liturgy (part three) and spirituality (part four). From these, the reader can construct a new faith perspective in which humanity enters into a relationship with the rest of creation that blends partnership with leadership.
