Good in decorated red cloth covered boards with a gilt top edge to the text block and with the cloth on the spine faded and rubbed at its ends. The end sheets are foxed and there is a slight lean to the spine. The fold-out map which precedes page xv is present and in fine condition. A Lakeside Classic issued in 1928. In Camp and Cabin was authored by John Steele. Both books were combined and edited by Milo Milton Qauife. This is the first year that the Lakeside Press changed the binding color to denote the end of the first 25 books in the series. Seller Inventory # TB33187

The Lakeside Classics, 377 pages, frontis, fold-out map, original maroon cloth, top edge gilt, minor wear and light soiling, a couple pages have a small tape repair and a couple pages were dogeared. Laid in is a handwritten paper with information about the Bidwell party. The Bidwell title covers the first 95 pages with the Steele title covering the rest of the book. The Steele title first published in 1901 is rare. "This detailed and important account of mining life is a sequel to Across the Plains. The three years of mining experience portrayed in this book was based on Steele's daily journal. Steele published the book fifty years after the adventure. According to the introduction: "The author . . . faithfully delineated the everyday life and experience of the average miner." He provided important information on mining techniques and laws while laboring in the Coloma District and on the Yuba and Feather rivers. The diary began on September 23, 1850, and ended late in July 1853, with his return to Wisconsin.
