Item description from seller

Hardcover octavo in near fine condition with quarter tan cloth and boards finished in red cloth. The dust jacket exists, with intact price, but the entire bottom half of the front panel and spine panel are missing, the top half of the spine panel has tears and wear, and edge chips and wear on the remaining portion. Signed, dated and inscribed by the author on the ffep. Stated first edition, but I'm not sure because it was also copyrighted in 1957. No reference to a previous publication. Frederick Stare, M.D. was a professor of Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health. Early proponent of eating a large variety of food for good nutrition and disease .resistance, of taking care to not overeat, and foe of food faddism. He believes all good food can be found at the corner grocery store, and kind of debunks "health food", and "organically grown" and opposition to flouridization of water, and believed that chemical fertilizers and pesticides, when used properly, were safe. This book, of course, is old knowledge from mid century, and more is now understood about food, nutrition, and safety of chemicals used for growing food. 239 pp.…
