I know this is not a quilting book, but most of us enjoy other stitching techniques. This is a lovely little book with lots of ideas for making cards by paper pricking and embroidery.

If you have card, needles and some oddments of thread or floss then you have practically all you need for this absorbing and pleasingly inexpensive pastime. Even pieces of thread left over from other projects that you thought were too short for anything else needn’t end up in the trash if you have this useful book!

Translated from the Dutch, this tells you all you need to know about how to make the cards. The stitches are simple; merely variations on going up one hole and down the other after you have pricked out your pattern. Large, helpful diagrams make light work of this and then it is on with the projects. There is possibly something for most tastes and occasions in here, from traditional flowers reminiscent of European folk art to abstracts, clowns, bears and birth announcements, photo frames and Christmas subjects and even some humorous snakes. To take it all a step further, some of the cards have colored pencil shading to add a new dimension to this craft, or a simple addition of beads or wobbly eyes. I had a ball making the cards and so will you. One for the keeper shelf!
