Synopsis:

More than a warning, "Earth Under Fire" is the most complete illustrated guide to the effects of climate change now available. It offers an upbeat and intelligent account of how we can lessen the effects of our near-total dependence on fossil fuels using technologies and energy sources already available. A thorough revision and a new preface for the paperback edition bring the compelling facts about climate change up to date.

About the Author: Gary Braasch is an Ansel Adams Award-winning photojournalist and a fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers. He is the author of Photographing the Patterns of Nature.

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. Second (updated) edition, softcover, quarto, 255 pages filled with color photos by Braasch. With an afterword by Bill McKibben. Inscribed on the half title page (the book s first page): "For Gerri Aaron & Marvin Albertz [sic], Thank you for your leaderships & support of the Tree Foundation and all our environmental needs. Best wishes, Gary Braasch, March 2010." Braasch was a prominent environmentalist and Ansel Adams Award-winning photojournalist who, tragically, died in 2016 while snorkeling in Australia; see his Washington Post obituary. "Pictures are not science," he writes in Earth Under Fire. "They can, however, provide direct evidence that global warming is happening now, all over the world." Gerri Aaron, meanwhile, was a prominent philanthropist in Sarasota, Florida; her late husband was a co-founder of Comcast. Marvin Albert was her companion for the last decade of her life. The Tree Foundation, based in Sarasota, is a non-profit dedicated to tree research, exploration and education (its honorary chairman of the board is Thomas Lovejoy), and Braasch was a friend of it and presented for its members on at least one occasion. He was also a friend of trees: He lived in one in Costa Rica for weeks to document "the rich diversity of a single place, at one moment, as seen by one person." About the book at hand, Al Gore writes, "The power of Gary Braasch's personal witness for the climate crisis makes this essential reading for every citizen." An interesting association and a rare signed copy. Near fine with only a light bump and resulting crease to the cover's upper, outer corner. Seller Inventory # ABE-1594776177863
