Includes the following chapters: Introduction to the Folio Society Edition, Up and Down, Island, Oceans and Continents, Alps, Plates, Ancient Ranges, The Dollar, Hot Rocks, Fault Lines, The Ancient of Days, Cover Story, Deep Things, and World View. Appendices include suggestions for Further Reading. Illustrated in colour and in black and white throughout. Illustrations include for example:- A Cross Section of the Earth (1664), Sulphur pools in the volcanic region of the Danakil Desert Ethiopia (contemporary), and Arthur Holmes and Doris Reynolds with Students - County Antrim (c.1935).
