About this Item
Tan cloth and boards. Quarto. Dust jacket. 153pp. Illustrated. First edition. This work deals with the keyboard instruments (excluding the organ) which preceded the pianoforte- i.e. the clavichord, virginal, spinet, and harpsichord, and with the early history of the pianoforte up to the year 1820. It is illustrated with more than 60 collotype plates taken from early texts and prints as well as from the finest examples of the instruments themselves in museums and private collections throughout England and America. In addition there is a list giving the names and working dates of over two hundred makers of keyboard instruments which should be invaluable to owners and collectors. A very good copy with some very light soiling and wear to the covers. The text is very good with some heavy foxing to the margins of some of the pages and plates. There is a small bookplate at front. The jacket is very good with some soiling and wear. Postage extra. Seller Inventory # 4933
