About the Author: Simon Popple is Principal Lecturer in Media History at the University of Teesside, and is joint editor of Living Pictures: The Journal of the Popular and Projected Image Before 1914.Joe Kember is Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Teesside and specializes in the study of late nineteenth-century popular entertainment and visual culture.
