"The first catalogue of the Eakins photographs in the Pennsylvania Academy's Charles Bregler collection, which includes about three-fourths of Eakins's photographic output. The book describes the entire collection of 648 images, reproducing 173 black-and-white photographs, 52 duotones, and a portfolio section of 16 tritones. This is the first book to place Eakins's photographic works (and those of his circle) within the context of the transitional era between 1880 and 1900, when photography moved from the realm of commerce to that of art." The introduction surveys the photographic scene in Philadelphia in the 1800s while the essays in the main body of the book explore the elements of fantasy, sexuality, and science in his work. Our specialties include the Humanities, with an emphasis on Art, Architecture, Photography, Decorative Arts, History, as well as Periodicals related to those areas. We have very rare as well as fairly common titles. Current inventory is approximately 79,000 titles. We have about 1000' of backlog in our specialties numbering over 30,000 items (including 20,000+ smaller and ephemeral catalogues devoted to individual artist exhibitions). Current stock occupies over 2.3 miles of shelving. We are active buyers as well as very active sellers, and supply entire reference libraries as well as individual titles. We ship books almost everywhere, with the exception of China due to restrictions.
