Item description from seller

The final and most complete edition of this compilation of British treaties with foreign powers, concentrating especially on those articles affecting shipping, navigation and commerce. This work was likely printed in a small number, for use by captains at sea and abroad. The most important appearance here is the accord of July 24, 1790, between England and Spain, settling their differences in the Pacific Northwest over conflicting claims at Nootka Sound. The confrontation half a world away from Europe almost brought the powers into war, but was resolved by this convention. There is much information on the New World fisheries in Nova Scotia and elsewhere, and the final treaty included is the 1783 treaty of peace with the United States. Also included are treaties with France, Spain, the States General, Portugal, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Danzig, Savoy, Turkey, Morocco, Algiers, Tripoli, and Tunis. With an extensive index. "Beautifully printed" - Sabin. DAVENPORT 177. SABIN 23535, 28069. SOLIDAY I:1325. Quarto. Contemporary speckled calf, gilt morocco label. Hinges moderately worn, but a handsome copy, internally fine.
