Small 8vo. xiv + 313pp. One large folding map of Western Europe and Eastern North America, 3 small folded plates of Pre-Columbian maps and a frontispiece of Micheal Mulhall. Original green cloth. Slight foxing to title page, and very light and trivial foxing throughout. Blind stamp reading "presentation copy?" at the very top of the title page. Neat previous owner's name on the front pastedown. Clean and near fine. For the story of the Jesuit Missions of Paraguay the Author freely used the works of Dobrishofer, Charlevoix, Montoya, Southey, and other less known writers. She also had access to several manuscripts by unknown writers, found after the flight of tyrant Lopez in his house at Asuncion (now the Brazilian Legation); and, through the kindness of the Cura of Villa Rica, Paraguay, Padre Romero, the author gleaned something from an old manuscript in his possession, alleged to have been written by St. Francis Solano (signed F. S.). Some notes found amongst the papers of the late Dr. Butler (Co. Clare) have proved useful. Seller Inventory # 009840
