Item description from seller

Octavo, viii, 291 pages. In Good plus condition. Bound in contemporary plain paper wraps, and housed in a green cloth clamshell box with leather label. Wraps show some rubbing and small tears, with a larger tear at head of spine. Edges of text block have light bumping. Pages are untrimmed and unopened, with minimal age-toning and foxing. RW Consignment. Considerably expanded from the 56-page English-language edition published in New York in 1787, where it was largely ignored by the American public. Faure's translation includes notes by de Nemours and Condorcet, along with a translation of the newly-ratified US Constitution. Stevens' work, in Faure's translation, had an enormous impact on the French political imagination in the lead-up to the French Revolution. References: Sabin 41646. 1352076.
