About this Item

Description:

Missing front flyleaf to page viii inclusive; ix-xvi, 1-427 pages. Hardcover: H 18.25cm x L 12.5cm. Full calf light brown leather binding; boards with gilt tooled borders; spine elaborately decorated in gilt with five raised bands and brown title compartment with gilt lettering of "Everyday Objects | Adams." Mostly mild scuffing along joints, board edges, and spine ends; minimal soiling and rubbing upon boards; corners worn. All edges marbled; marbled endpapers with binder's stamp "Bound by Baker & Son.Clifton" at bottom edge of front free endpaper verso. With illustrations and Index. Missing leaves include title page and all but the last three pages of the author's Preface; the table of contents on pages xiii-xv is intact. Publishing data is presumed since that information is missing but OCLC lists Nimmo editions of 1870 and 1876 (along with a Boston edition by D. Lothrop & Co. published 1872). Of those three editions, OCLC only lists seven copies worldwide. If not for the missing leaves this would otherwise be a quite handsome very good+ copy in decorated antiquarian leather.
