The author considers the topics of moral freedom, the ethics of pacifism, miracles, magic in modern politics and the biological approach to philosophy, leading on to a discussion of the logic and philosophy of science. Next are two theological essays and then two public lectures on Isaac Newton and Samuel Alexander, followed by two short descriptive pieces on the coast of Eastern Canada. Professor Arthur David Ritchie (1891-1967), previously a chemical physiologist, held the chair of Logic and Metaphysics at the University of Edinburgh, 1945-60.
