Pierre Guillaume Metzmacher [born 1815], a French engraver, was active from about 1845-1872. Jefferson Davis's facsimile signature is printed beneath his portrait, with the caption "President des Etats Confederes d'Amerique." Beneath the caption is the imprint information: Berlin, Paris, and New York, identical to the copy at the Smithsonian. According to the National Portrait Gallery's website, Metzmacher's portrait was a "copy after Matthew B. Brady." OCLC 39775012 [1- Lib. VA], 894524149 [1- U So. Car.] as of November 2023.
