Emergency medicine begins long before the patient reaches the hospital. The decisions made at the scene of an accident, during transport, and in the first critical minutes of emergency care can determine survival and long-term outcomes.
Emergency Care: From the Streets to the Hospital provides a comprehensive and practical approach to modern emergency response, integrating prehospital assessment, life-saving interventions, trauma management, resuscitation principles, and hospital-based emergency care.
This essential reference covers:
• Foundations of emergency medicine and the evolution of prehospital care systems
• Scene assessment, emergency triage, patient safety, and rapid decision-making
• Primary and secondary patient assessment using structured emergency approaches
• Airway management, breathing support, oxygen therapy, and ventilation strategies
• Circulation assessment, hemorrhage control, shock recognition, and fluid management
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), advanced life support, and cardiac emergencies
• Trauma assessment, injury patterns, spinal precautions, and trauma team coordination
• Management of head injuries, chest trauma, abdominal injuries, fractures, and burns
• Emergency pharmacology and medication principles in acute care
• Neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, abdominal, and environmental emergencies
• Disaster response, mass casualty incidents, and austere emergency care
• Communication, documentation, teamwork, and transition from prehospital to hospital care
• Modern technologies, simulation training, and future directions in emergency response
Designed for emergency physicians, paramedics, EMTs, nurses, first responders, medical students, and healthcare professionals, this book bridges the gap between field emergencies and hospital-based treatment.
By combining evidence-based emergency principles with practical response strategies, Emergency Care: From the Streets to the Hospital provides a complete framework for recognizing critical illness, performing life-saving interventions, and delivering effective emergency care across the continuum of patient management.
Recognize emergencies. Act decisively. Save lives from the first response to definitive care.
