This book in it's entirety is a unique 548 pp. compendium of general facts and information. This particular copy is much thinner, as it is a "SALESMAN'S SAMPLE". From the late 1800's through the 1930's or 1940's, when America was much more rural, and most small towns had no bookstores, travelling salesmen went door-to-door to sell books. They would just carry one of each title and place an order to have the book shipped to any interested customer. So as to minimize the size and the weight of the carried books for the salesmen, special abbreviated copies were used. They are fascinating to look at, as the front and rear boards are identical in size and design as the complete books, but internally, there are just a few representative pages from each chapter. What makes these books extra special however, is in the rear. After the printed pages, there are many lined, but otherwise blank pages for the salesman to record all the customers that ordered that title. Secondarily, inside the rear board is a mock leather spine, the exact width and size of the complete book, so that the customer can see that appearance, in case he wants to order the deluxe leather edition of the title, as opposed to ordering the standard cloth edition. This one is unmarked and in nice condition, inside and out. These "SALESMAN'S SAMPLES" are quite sought after, as there are far fewer of a title than the complete books, and there are collectors that only collect them.…
