This fascinating paper explores the little-known history of Dutch exploration and colonization in the Arctic and in Maine. Drawing upon a range of primary sources, De Peyster sheds light on the ambitions and achievements of Dutch adventurers and settlers who sought to stake their claim on these remote and inhospitable regions. This work is an important contribution to the history of European exploration and expansion, and to the broader field of colonial studies.
