Item description from seller

1964. Reprint of the 'Everyman's Library' edition (No. 569 of the larger format series). vi, 322pp. plus a 4-page catalogue. This is the second volume only (of two) of a complete edition of John Dryden's criticism, that collects the whole of his critical writings in whatever form they have survived - prefaces, essays, prologues, epilogues, letters and private notes. They are fully annotated , and the introduction reassesses Dryden's claim to be considered, in Johnson's words, 'the father of English criticism'. The book is bound in the original light purple cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The book is in very good condition with bumping to the bottom of the spine and the contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped lilac shaded wrapper (design by 'Lathey') has shelf wear with rubbing to the edges and bumping to the bottom of the spine. There is a 1/4" tear on the bottom front spine corner.
