nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Before Broadway, before electric light, the stage rode the river roads. The frontier loved a show. In Dramatic Life As I Found It, Noah Miller Ludlow records his theater memoir of touring, managing, and performing across the nation, from town halls to improvised venues along the Mississippi, in the West and South. He writes with a showman's eye for audiences, rivalries, and the economics of playgoing.Part personal chronicle, part american theater history, it traces the rise and progress of the drama in the West and South during the antebellum United States, when traveling theater troupes carried Shakespeare, melodrama, and comedy, always on the move. Ludlow folds in frontier stage anecdotes and a biographical sketches collection rich with actors and actresses biographies: the stars, the stalwarts, and the local favourites who shaped mississippi valley theater. Read for its storytelling and backstage candour; keep it as a performing arts reference and a vivid piece of 19th century cultural history, illuminating the old west theater as lived experience rather than legend.Ludlow's first-hand account stands among the key documents of regional theatre, capturing how performance, commerce, and community met on the river frontier. For casual readers it is a gripping road narrative; for classic-literature collectors, an essential witness to a formative art. Presented as a complete unabridged edition. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today -- a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.…
