About the Author

Geboren am 19.7.1868 in Werder bei Rehfeld/Mark Brandenburg; gestorben am 22.9.1925 in Berlin. Heimann stammte aus einer j�dischen Kleinb�rgerfamilie. Er besuchte zuerst eine Dorfschule; nach dem Abitur studierte er von 1886 bis 1890 Philosophie und Literatur in Berlin. 1895 erhielt er, u.a. auf Vermittlung durch Gerhart Hauptmann, eine Stelle als Cheflektor im Fischer-Verlag, die er bis zu seinem krankheitsbedingten Ausscheiden im Jahre 1925 behielt. F�r die Neue Rundschau, die Zeit und Das Theater schrieb er von 1895 bis 1922 viele Zeitschriftenbeitr�ge (Kritiken, Essays, Novellen); mit seinen Dramen hatte er wenig Erfolg. Viele Autoren wurden von ihm gef�rdert: neben Hauptmann (dessen Schw�gerin er heiratete) Thomas Mann, D�blin, Hofmannsthal und andere. Nach 1920 wurde er Feuilletonmitarbeiter der wichtigsten Zeitungen der Weimarer Republik.
