Third impression, printed the same month as the first, published by Victor Gollancz in 1933. The first print run was 1500 copies, followed by 500 copies in the second impression, and another 1000 for this third impression, all in the same month. No dust jacket. Black cloth covers with yellow lettering to the spine, some faint marks and scuffs, small bump to one fore edge corner, securely bound, with a lean, faint area of marking to the fore edge of page block, previous owners bookplate neatly removed from pastedown, prelims with some heavy foxing, sporadic foxing thereafter, one page with a neatly repaired short closed tear. Good condition. Orwell's first full length work, a memoir that documents his personal experiences with extreme poverty in the two cities. It is part memoir, part sociological study, and part travelogue, exposing the hidden, gritty lives of the destitute in two of Europe's most prosperous capitals.
