Synopsis

Who wouldn't like to be someone else at times, to take oneself off like a jacket and to put on another? In this publication of the exhibition double life international artists from very different generations present works in which the wish to assume another role is taken up. The differing strategies of imagining another subject could be termed eccentric, ironic or even utopian and critical. These extend from the widening of one's own experiential horizon to the construction of a fictional character. Beyond freely chosen identities personal history is still always perceptible. Thus the exhibits tell stories of wishes and desires but cannot make you forget the artists' selves.
