- Book 2 of 3: The Doofuzz Dudes
A goose just laid a letter. It's addressed to "King Toby." And it can't be opened by anyone else on Earth.
Six months ago, four ordinary boys and one extraordinary girl slipped through a secret door and saved the hidden kingdom of Moondar. Now a magical summons has arrived — sealed in purple wax, delivered by one very confused farmyard goose — and the Doofuzz Dudes are needed again. This time the stakes couldn't be higher: baby Crown Princess Krystina has been snatched by the dreaded Dreezles, and an ancient prophecy says only the boy with the purple eyes can bring her home.
So begins The Princess Detector, the second rip-roaring adventure in the Doofuzz Dudes series — an eighteen-book saga bursting with magic, mischief and heart.
To rescue the princess, Toby, Huon, Tom, William and the fearless Anu must soar into another world on the backs of the Hawthorks — giant birds with glowing purple wings and night-flying goggles. Their quest will carry them across boiling rainbow seas, through the reeking Marshes of Salcazar to a fortune-hungry seer who lives at the bottom of a well, and up the freezing cliffs of Mount Dreadlock, where snapping Gerdlocks circle and a two-headed giant guards the gates. And waiting in the shadows is an old enemy — the wicked Prince Florian — who wants the Dudes' magic Spell Book for himself.
But when they finally find the princess, the Dudes face their cleverest trap yet: two identical babies, side by side, and only one is real. The magical Princess Detector fizzles out. The Spell Book falls silent. And Toby learns the lesson at the heart of every great adventure — that when the magic runs out, what saves the day is the courage in your own heart... and the loyalty of friends who never give up.
Why young readers and their grown-ups love the Doofuzz Dudes:
- A page-turner they'll beg to keep reading — short, punchy chapters and cliffhangers built for reluctant readers and bookworms alike.
- Laugh-out-loud funny — whoopee cushions, green hair, grumpy goblins, a talking bed and the unforgettable Aunty Hettie.
- A heroine who steals the show — Anu, the first-ever girl to take the Doofuzz Dudes' oath, saves the whole gang by dancing a traditional Indian garba to charm a monster to sleep. A joyful celebration of teamwork, bravery and different cultures.
- Grows a kinder kid — woven through the fun are gentle lessons about courage, friendship, understanding others, and caring for animals and our planet.
Perfect for independent readers aged 7–11, and an irresistible read-aloud for the whole family at bedtime. If your child loves the humour of The 13-Storey Treehouse, the wonder of The Magic Faraway Tree, or the world-hopping thrills of How to Train Your Dragon, they'll be hooked from the very first goose-laid letter.
No need to have read Book 1 — every Doofuzz Dudes adventure stands gloriously on its own.
