Atoka, Indian Territory, on 13 October 1899. Document Appointing a Notary Public in Oklahoma Indian Territory [Manuscript]. [Oklahoma]. [Indian Territory]. [Document Appointing A Notary Public for the Central District of the Indian Territory]. Atoka, Oklahoma, October 13, 1899. Single 12-1/2" x 8" (31.7 x 20.3 cm) leaf, embossed seal of the United States District Court in the Central District, Indian Territory. Light toning, horizontal fold lines, short tear along fold, text in ink on lined paper. $250. * This document officially certifies the appointment of O.H. Etting as a Notary Public. It features the signatures of two prominent figures in Oklahoma territorial history: E.J. Fannin, Territorial Clerk, was a pivotal legal official in the Central District during the chaotic transition toward statehood. D.N. Robb, Deputy Clerk, was an influential early white settler, prominent merchant, and civic leader in Atoka. Established by the American Baptist Mission, the home provided vital care for orphaned children of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations. Remarkably, the Murrow Home continues to operate today, sustained by the Cherokee Nation and charitable donations. A scarce, well-preserved piece of Western Americana documenting the intersection of federal law, local commerce, and Native American history in the twilight years of the Indian Territory.…
