Print on Demand. This book succinctly describes the development of the American government, from the colonial era through the ratification of the Constitution. The author traces the origins of American political institutions to the English system, then illustrates how those structures evolved in response to the challenges of a frontier environment and the need to accommodate diverse colonial interests. The book also provides an account of the events that led to the adoption of the Articles of Confederation and the ultimate framing of the Constitution. Ultimately, this history of the United States government shows how the gradual evolution of American political institutions created the framework that would foster the growth of a powerful, stable, and just republic. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

It is the duty of the public schools to give to this republic, as a part of the price Of their existence, boys and girls possessing a knowledge and understanding of the social, industrial, political, and constitutional develop ment of the United States. Because of an understanding of the issues of the day, and of a patriotism derived largely from an honest study of the important facts of our national growth, they will have the moral courage to vote and act as their judgment dictates.
