Discipleship Leader’s Guide: Equipping Mentors to Guide Followers of Jesus A 12-Month Companion for Biblical Mentoring and Spiritual Growth
Are you called to walk alongside someone in their faith journey?
This comprehensive Mentor’s Guide is the essential companion to the Discipleship: Learning to Be a Follower of Jesus participant book. Designed for pastors, small-group leaders, one-on-one mentors, and any believer who feels God’s nudge to invest in others, this guide equips you to lead with confidence, humility, and grace.
What makes this guide unique?
- Month-by-month structure mirroring the 12-month discipleship journey, with clear purposes, teaching insights, and shepherding notes for every week.
- Practical mentoring tools: Open-ended questions, discussion guidance, watch-for-this alerts (e.g., addressing doubt, comparison, or burnout), and shepherding moments to create safe, grace-filled spaces.
- Heart-centered encouragement: Warm letters to share with mentees, reminders that transformation belongs to God (not you), and reflections to sustain your own walk as a mentor.
- Biblical foundation: Anchored in Scripture (ESV), drawing from Jesus as the ultimate model of discipleship, Paul’s investment in Timothy, and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20).
- Real-world application: Tips for one-on-one meetings, group gatherings (potlucks, service projects, commissioning), role-plays, and handling common challenges like insecurity, resistance, or slow progress.
- Multiplication focus: Prepares you to help mentees become disciple-makers themselves, with a powerful commissioning ceremony in Month 12 to send them forward empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Ideal for:
- Church small groups or discipleship classes
- One-on-one mentoring relationships
- New believers’ follow-up or maturity pathways
- Pastors and lay leaders building reproducible discipleship systems
Discipleship is not about programs—it’s about people walking together in the dust of the Master. Whether you’re a seasoned mentor or stepping into this calling for the first time, this guide provides the insight, encouragement, and practical steps you need to faithfully invest in lives for eternal impact.
“And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” — 2 Timothy 2:2 (ESV)
Start equipping others today. God is faithful to complete the work He begins.
