Item description from seller

D.A. Sutherland et al. "Direct observations of submarine melt and subsurface geometry at a tidewater glacier" in Science, vol 365, issue 6451, 26 July 2019, pp 297-404 with the Sutherland on pp 39-373. Original wrappers. Near-fine copy except for a mailing label on the bottom of the front wrapper. One of the overall working ideas here is sort of overwhelming: mapping the underwater geometry of glaciers. Sutherland’s 2019 paper was significant because it directly measured underwater glacier melting and showed that warm ocean water, focused by turbulent freshwater plumes, can produce highly localized and intense submarine melt, which is a key process in glacier retreat and sea-level rise, validating ocean-glacier interaction models. 714.3.
