Print on Demand. This book humorously presents an alternative and opinionated view of events in Scotland's religious history during the mid-19th century. Focused around a fictional court case, the author uses real-life incidents and characters to illustrate his argument that a focus on minor detail can obscure fundamental religious truth. The author discusses the broader context of religious difference that runs through Scottish history, bringing clarity to the subject. He argues that the deep-seated division between what he terms 'evangelical' and 'rational' Christianity is a constant feature of Scotland's religious experience. The book uses satire and humor to underscore the consequences of religious division, particularly when it comes at the expense of broader societal unity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

- Biography and Autobiography
The Author of these Burlesqnes pleads guilty to three charges: He has attempted to hold up certain vices of the age - in the Church and out of the Church - to the ridicule which they deserve; He has gone about this work in a fashion of his own - less in telligible to some, less palatable, perhaps, to others, than he could have wished, but best suited, as it seemed to him, for the purpose in hand; and He has taken the liberty of preserving (in pickle) some of the gro tesque features of our Church controversies, and of the prominent men who have taken part in them.
