Turn inspection readings into defensible manufacturing decisions
A measured value is not automatically a reliable result. Temperature, part restraint, datum selection, instrument resolution, calibration status, sampling strategy, and uncertainty can change whether the same feature appears acceptable or nonconforming. When those influences are overlooked, capable processes may be rejected and defective parts may reach assembly.
Dimensional Metrology for Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance connects measurement science with the daily work of design interpretation, inspection, calibration, and process control. Its 18 progressive chapters move from units, traceability, error, statistics, and uncertainty to contact instruments, comparators, functional gages, GD&T, coordinate measurement, noncontact systems, surface analysis, and laboratory management.
Through worked examples, technical diagrams, comparison tables, practice problems, and complete answers, you will learn how to:
- select micrometers, calipers, indicators, comparators, gage blocks, CMM probes, optical systems, and surface instruments for specific tasks;
- interpret size, form, orientation, location, profile, and runout requirements without disconnecting the drawing from inspection;
- establish datum reference frames and restraint schemes that reproduce functional part relationships;
- evaluate uncertainty, guard bands, repeatability, reproducibility, capability, and control-chart evidence;
- build traceable calibration systems and determine whether a measurement process is fit for its intended use;
- translate tolerances and manufacturing risks into practical inspection plans, records, and acceptance decisions.
Coverage includes surface plates and layout methods, limits and fits, virtual condition, bonus tolerance, composite controls, rotating-part inspection, probe qualification, error mapping, video and optical measurement, surface texture, form and contour analysis, measurement system analysis, statistical process control, accreditation, and digital metrology integration.
The text is designed for manufacturing and quality engineers, dimensional inspectors, calibration technicians, CMM programmers, laboratory personnel, engineering students, and production professionals. Equations are developed step by step, variables and units are defined, and numerical results are tied to the decision they support.
Use this text to choose an instrument, plan an inspection, interpret a geometric requirement, evaluate measurement capability, or strengthen a calibration program. Begin with the requirement, control the measurement conditions, quantify what the result can support, and make acceptance decisions that remain defensible under technical review. The final chapters also show how inspection evidence should be communicated when a result lies close to a tolerance boundary. That discipline prevents a single reading from being mistaken for demonstrated conformance.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
