Complete in 18 volumes including Supplement I in Vol. 15, the Index in Vol. 16, and the two-vol. Supplement II in Vols. 17 and 18. This set was deaccessioned from the Crandall Public Library in Glens Falls, NY, and the volumes all have the following library markings: two labels on the spine, library stamps on the edges and a few leaves, and a small checkout label on the rear endpaper. Apart from the library stamps and a few corner creases, the interrnals are pristine and ideal for scholarly use. All volumes have Dust Jackets except vols. 17 and 18. In some cases, Dust Jacket flaps are adhering to inside cover pastedowns. In other cases, pieces of tape run from the flaps to the covers and hold the Dust Jackets in place. All Dust Jackets have protective acetate covers except Vol. 7. Most Dust Jackets are very nice, but a few have serious edge chips. This set is a major reference issued under the auspices of the American Council of Learned Societies for historians of science, researchers, and libraries seeking information about scientists. The scientists included worked in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and the earth sciences. The entries were written by eminent historians of science. Apart from the flaws mentioned, a very good set except fpr Vol. 17, which has a bend in the covers and is only good. Important. Not for shopping abroad. Shipping in the United States for media mail postage would be $25. …
