Neuware - 'Diathermy' is a specialized medical treatise written by Elkin P. Cumberbatch that delves into the science and application of high-frequency electrical currents for therapeutic purposes. This classic text offers a detailed exploration of the physiological principles behind the generation of heat within deep body tissues, a process distinct from superficial heating methods. The work systematically outlines the clinical use of both medical and surgical diathermy, providing a rigorous look at the methodologies employed to treat various musculoskeletal and systemic conditions during the early twentieth century. Through comprehensive chapters, Cumberbatch examines the technical requirements of the apparatus, the necessary precautions for safe practice, and the specific indications for treatment in fields such as rheumatology and dermatology. As a significant historical contribution to physical medicine, 'Diathermy' highlights the transition of electrotherapy into a scientifically grounded medical discipline. This book is an invaluable resource for historians of medicine and practitioners interested in the origins of modern thermal therapy and rehabilitation techniques. It reflects the clinical dedication and scientific inquiry that defined the early development of physical medicine as a specialized branch of healthcare. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
