«Empapada.
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
A woman goes through menopause--and lives to tell the tale.
"Soaked. Thighs, arms, chest, neck, face, hairline, nape. I'd end up kicking off the sheets, the blankets, the socks. Then came the insomnia, the sense of looming catastrophe in the middle of the night." A woman wakes in the night with freezing feet, only to be consumed moments later by a shameless heat.
Migraines, mood swings, sudden rage--a chaotic list of symptoms with no clear cause. Her body becomes unfamiliar territory. Encounters with men and women alike now carry the weight of an unexpected and urgent challenge: shedding her old skin.
Diary of a Move--the latest book by Inés Garland--chronicles this stage of transformation in a woman's life, shaped by ancient, inherited expectations. A new way of reading emerges, as a web of personal and borrowed writings reveals the prejudices, taboos, silences, historical blind spots, and the battles fought in search of meaning.
This is the diary of a profound upheaval--one that dismantles an old identity and makes space for an unexpected new life.
