A scarce facsimile of Sir Thomas More's dialogue concerning Tyndale, with a frontispiece portrait. A scarce facsimile edition, reproduced in black letter from the collected edition (1557) of More's English works. In publisher's original blue cloth binding. With gilt to top fore edge. With a frontispiece portrait of Sir Thomas More.Sir Thomas More was venerated in the Catholic Church as Saint Thomas More, and was an English judge, lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, theologian and noted Renaissance humanist. He served Henry VIII as Lord Chancellor from 1529-1532, however, he opposed the king's separation from the Catholic Church and refused to acknowledge him as supreme head of the Church of England, leading to his execution.More was also opposed to the Protestant Reformation, and directed polemics against the theology of Martin Luther, Huldrych Zwingli and William Tyndale, seen in this volume. This work is edited with a modern version of the same and an essay on the spirit and doctrine of the dialogue by W.E. Campbell, with a historical introduction and philological notes by A.W. Reed. In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Fading to the spine and head of boards. Shelf wear to the head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good.
