"The Devouring Mothers" is Niki de Saint Phalle's beautifully illustrated artist's book cum cautionary children's primer on the darker side of family dynamics. It's production overseen in Milan by the redoubtable Piero Tosi, it reproduces twenty-two of the artist's vibrant, phantasmal drawings as colorful screenprints. An internally bright, most handsome example of the uncommon - only seven copies are currently cited in OCLC WorldCat - 1972 Gimpel Fils first edition whose highly acidic boards show some age-toning and spotting, and emit a faint sulfurous odor.
