You can connect an AI model to your application. But can you turn that connection into a reliable system people can actually use?
Maybe you have already experimented with prompts, APIs, or AI coding tools. The real challenge begins when your application needs to search private knowledge, maintain context, use external tools, work with live data, perform multi-step tasks, handle failures, protect sensitive information, and scale beyond a simple demo.
AI Development with TypeScript is a practical guide to building modern AI-powered applications with TypeScript and Node.js. It takes you from the foundations of AI application development to RAG, agents, tools, multi-agent systems, Model Context Protocol (MCP), testing, security, and production deployment.
What You Will Learn
Inside this book, you will learn how to:
- Connect TypeScript applications to AI models and handle responses reliably
- Work with prompts, messages, structured outputs, context, state, and memory
- Build RAG systems using documents, embeddings, chunking, and vector search
- Improve retrieval quality and generate better grounded answers
- Build AI agents with goals, state, actions, tools, and controlled agent loops
- Connect agents to APIs, databases, and application functions
- Design reliable multi-step and tool-using workflows
- Build and coordinate multi-agent systems
- Connect AI applications to external capabilities with MCP
- Test and evaluate models, prompts, RAG pipelines, tools, and agents
- Protect applications from prompt injection, unsafe tool use, unauthorized access, and data exposure
- Implement logging, tracing, retries, observability, cost controls, and failure handling
- Deploy and scale AI applications for production
- Combine RAG, agents, tools, workflows, security, and evaluation into a complete AI system
Go Beyond AI Demos
Building a chatbot that produces an impressive response is one thing. Building an AI application that remains useful when information changes, tools fail, users provide unexpected input, or an agent requests a sensitive action requires stronger engineering.
This book shows you how to keep your application in control while using AI where it adds real value. Practical TypeScript examples help you understand how the individual pieces connect, so you can build systems that are easier to test, secure, maintain, and improve.
Whether you are a TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, backend, full-stack, or aspiring AI developer, this book gives you a practical path from basic model integration to production-ready AI development.
AI software is rapidly moving beyond simple prompt-and-response applications. RAG, agents, tool use, MCP, evaluation, security, and production architecture are becoming important skills for developers building the next generation of intelligent software.
Don't stop at calling an AI API. Learn how to build the complete system around it.
