The author atempts to set forth the development and character of Gothic architecture, he use's the term 'Gothic', because it has been established by custom to designate the architecture of the late Middle Ages as distinguished from that of ancient and early mediaeval times; and because, since it was owing to the infusion of Northern genius that the style was brought into being, it is not an entirely inappropriate term. With illustrations through out. / This is a 'cloth bound' 1st edition hardback, in good condition-with pencil writing through out, on the text pages / the 'text' pages are a little foxed & the cloth is slightly faded & cloth cover corners are bumped&a little rubbed / there is a 'name-stamp' from the previous owner on the title page. (333 pages & 19 pages of introduction & 2 pages of advertisements).
