Paperback. The most dangerous kids at Wayne Carberry High just got powers--and a villain to teach them control. The Detention Crew Pt. 1, a YA team book from the Soska sisters. When troubled teens at Wayne Carberry High suddenly gain dangerous powers, a reformed supervillain is brought in to help them learn control. As they struggle to master abilities none of them asked for, an ancient threat begins to rise--putting everyone, powered or not, in its path. A young-adult team book with horror under the hood: grounded teen drama, found-family friction, and a mentor whose past is exactly the wrong kind of qualification. The Rippaverse's YA lane starts here. The first chapter of The Detention Crew, written by Jen and Sylvia Soska--a YA (teen) series that continues in Pt. 2 and the HC collection. A clean entry point for younger readers into the Rippaverse. For younger readers and the adults handing them the book, it's a clean, self-contained entry into the Rippaverse with the franchise's signature character-first energy and horror-tinged stakes that set it apart from typical teen-team fare. Written by Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska--Canadian filmmakers and comic creators known for fearless, character-first storytelling, here bringing horror-tinged stakes to a teen team book.
