5 1/4 inches x 7 1/2 in., woodcut design: Meister Iohans Hadloub Minnelieder, printed on a sheet of thin tissue (proof) type paper; withial initial: ST (Steiner?). Possibly a design for a student competition in graphic design (The Gewerbeschule, Zurich edition was published in 1921 with a titlepage by Pierre Gauchet). The paper shows light, age-related tanning. From the personal collection of Swiss-born artist and designer, Fred Rentschler, who emigrated to America in the early 1920's, and later taught at the Cleveland [Ohio] School of Art. His collection contained examples of proofs & finished pieces of bookplates, new year's greetings, book illustrations, title-page designs, initial letters, etc. mainly produced by Swiss artists & designers, ca. 1917-22, including a few of his Swiss bookplate designs.
