The 13th edition features a new chapter, Chapter 10, covering strut-and-tie models, although the two-pronged objectives of (1) establishing a firm understanding of the behavior of reinforced concrete, and (2) developing proficiency in the methods used in current design practice are retained.

The text presents the basic mechanics of structural concrete and methods for the design of individual members for bending, shear, torsion, and axial force, and also provides detail in the various types of structural systems applications.
