Add to basketDermatologic Therapy in General Practice, in its Third Edition, is a highly practical clinical manual by Marion B. Sulzberger - one of the most significant and internationally influential dermatologists of the 20th century, whose wartime naval consulting role and leadership at the New York Skin and Cancer Unit placed him at the center of American dermatology during and after WWII - co-authored with Jack Wolf. Issued as part of "The General Practice Manuals" series (published alongside titles by other prominent contemporary physicians on subjects from diabetes to obstetrics), the book is explicitly designed for the working general practitioner rather than the specialist, covering practical diagnostic methods, detailed principles of topical medication (baths, wet dressings, poultices, lotions, ointments, and more), physical treatment modalities (Roentgen rays, radium, Grenz rays, ultraviolet light, electrolysis), and disease-specific management chapters covering eczematous dermatoses, drug eruptions, pigmentation disorders, and - notably for its date - an extensive treatment of early syphilis including penicillin treatment protocols, reflecting the immediate post-war introduction of penicillin as frontline syphilis therapy. Sulzberger in particular is a name of real significance in the history of American dermatology; his broader career included foundational contributions to the understanding of allergic contact dermatitis and eczema, and this manual - intended for practical office use by general physicians rather than specialists - offers a useful window into how dermatological knowledge was being actively translated into everyday clinical practice in the years following World War II. Condition & Binding: Original publisher's cloth binding in green, with the title lettered in gilt on black rectangular ground panels to both the front board and spine, reading "DERMATOLOGIC THERAPY IN GENERAL PRACTICE / SULZBERGER WOLF / THIRD EDITION" on the front board and a matching design on the spine with "YEAR BOOK PUBLISHERS CHICAGO" additionally lettered along the spine. The binding presents in solid condition, with the boards clean and the distinctive black-and-gilt title panels well-preserved and legible; there is light general wear to the spine ends and corners consistent with normal handling, but no significant fraying, staining, or structural issues. The text block is clean throughout, and the numerous in-text photographic illustrations remain sharp and clear. Overall- very good.
