Despite much talk surrounding democracy, there is little time spent concentrating of the concept of democracy itself, its history and justification as a form of poltical governance. This title looks at the its rich history in all its varied forms, and at some of the challenges democracies face today. Beginning with the rise of democracy in fifth century Athens and ending with an exploration of what the future might hold, e.g. e-democracy, this is an important resource for this key global concept. Readers will become familiar with key ideas from critics, advocates and architects.
