Item description from seller

[Modern literature] FIRST THUS. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.xi [1] xx; 301 [3]. Publisher's red quarter cloth, pictorial paper over boards. Paper title label to spine. With the typographic dust-jacket priced at 7s 6d to front flap. Publisher's small slip to rear blank. Internally clean but for some light spotting to preliminaries and a few small marks throughout. Gentle toning to boards and spine label. Toning across jacket with a few minor marks to rear panel. Light edgewear. Very good. Ros is somewhat of an unsung literary legend, her work lauded by figures such as Mark Twain and the Inklings - but for being so bad it was unintentionally good. She wrote in a prose so flowery, one struggles to make it through a single sentence without frowning. See the Guardian article 'Is Amanda McKittrick Ros the worst novelist in history?' for more. This edition also includes Ros's scathing 20-page takedown of literary critic Barry Pain who had the audacity to give a poor review of her first novel 'Irene Iddesleigh'.…
