The Semiquincentennial of the American Revolution is approaching on July 4, 2026. What better time could there be to introduce a legendary story of the American fight for liberty in South Carolina during the American Revolutionary War? This new book, Defiant Carolinians by Ted L. Gragg, transports the reader into the midst of the 1776 conflict. The compelling storyline vividly portrays the struggle waged by the gallant men, women, and youth of the future United States of America.
Defiant Carolinians is a tremendous and exciting adventure novel about the American Revolutionary War in the state of South Carolina. The plot revolves around the interactions of Britain's military leadership assigned to the American colonies and their reactions and interactions with the American patriots and the American Tories. The leading characters, Capt. Bowie Avery and his young wife Taggan are committed to the Patriot cause and the fight for independence from England. They and their companions journey through the years of the American Revolutionary War with vigor. The book is resplendent in a vast assortment of historical figures as well as fictional characters that establish their roles within the conflict by their pivotal actions within the book's plot.
South Carolina saw much of the armed conflict that occurred during the American Revolution. Over 400 battles and skirmishes were fought within South Carolina's boundaries. Ted Gragg uses this fact to weave an exciting adventure story through and around many recognized historical figures and his fictional characters. The story stretches along the coastal region of South Carolina from Wilmington, North Carolina, to Savannah, Georgia; from the swamps to the Piedmont, and from the foothills to the mountains.
