8pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 2 photographs, minor, faded damp-staining noted at margins, salvaged from a damaged issue of The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine, Volume 96, No. 3, July, 1918. From the text, "Repeated outrages during 1914 and 1915 convinced far-sighted and hard-headed men of the fact that Germany had built up in this country a most efficient spy-system; that one of its main functions would be to throw the whole country into confusion, should we enter the war, and that no measures to accomplish this would be deemed too desperate or too diabolical." Illustrations include Fay's infernal machine for blowing up steamships, and Fay's infernal machine fastened on the rudder-post of a ship at left of the propeller blade. Housed in protective mylar report cover with spine sleeve.
