A new adult dystopian mystery from Lou Collins, for readers of The Hunger Games and Divergent.
The sky is burning, and Scolaris is dying under it.
A second sun has risen over Scolaris. It scorches the gardens, blinds anyone who looks up, and casts a light so relentless that even nightfall can't dim it.
But the light isn't what's killing people. Across all five districts, a toxin drawn from Scolaris's most forbidden creature is claiming victims. Every one of them dies smiling.
The Protectorate sequesters itself for vote after vote that goes nowhere, while its Head is missing with a diplomatic visitor still in the city. When the rumour that he's dead finally breaks, the chamber doesn't grieve. It starts jockeying for his chair.
Quill has already learned what it costs to survive this city. Now she has to protect the family she's built here, starting with the mentor she nearly lost once before, while Red, newly Chief of the City Guard, races to catch a killer before the Protectorate finishes covering for itself.
Someone in Scolaris is getting away with murder while the whole city looks the other way. Quill isn't ready to let it stay buried.
